In Memoriam

Bruno Franz Bischofberger

1 January 1940 – 9 May 2026

Art historian, art collector, art dealer

The Family and the staff of the gallery and collections are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Bruno Bischofberger.

With his death, Switzerland has lost a leading figure in the international art world!

From the 1960s onwards, he not only shaped the Swiss gallery scene, but also made a name for himself internationally at an early stage. With his insatiable passion for art and culture, his incomparably broad knowledge, his critical eye, his determination and conviction, Bischofberger was far more than just an art dealer; he was a brilliant artist in his own right, a visionary, a pioneer, a teacher and a patron. Without him, the art history of the second half of the 20th century would have been written differently. He never put himself in the limelight, but shaped and inspired numerous renowned artists, art collectors, curators and art enthusiasts. He helped entire generations of artists, from the 1960s onwards, and particularly those of the 1980s, to achieve international visibility.

Through his visionary contributions to the history of art and his significant collections, Bruno Bischofberger will live on forever.

Bischofberger is survived by his wife Yoyo, his four children, Lea, Nina, Cora and Magnus, and his ten grandchildren.

The family, together with the staff of the gallery and the collections, will endeavour to preserve this significant legacy, in keeping with his wishes.
